Abaddon is an action RPG set in 1980s New York, in the midst of a mythological takeover.

Characters from all manner of cultures, cliques, and mythologies clash in this chaotic new world where influence is everything.

Tear up the streets with slick shooting and melee combat, and spice it up with unique abilities and even supernatural drugs…

Technical Design

Gameplay Objects

I created Technical Design Documents for Interactables for the engineering team to follow in order to make the modular components needed to be created to structure the foundation for design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design Documentation

    • Enemy AI Systems

    • Interactables

Doors

Iteration Takeaways

  • Initial State

    • Doors fall down flat when pushed open

    • This feels slapstick, doesn't feel satisfying

  • Takeaways

    • Creating doors affixed to a hinge, would make it act more like a door that swings open

    • When the player shoots, it feels more impactful

Doors

Crates

Iteration Takeaways

  • Initial State

    • Crates never unload from the scene

    • Crates are empty and only serve to introduce melee

  • Takeaways

    • For optimization of the scene, unloading / destroying broken crate Game Objects

    • Player Rewarding - Including collectable resources, such as Drugs within crates that can be used in combat and encourage mayhem

Crates

I had also done the design documents pertaining to Interactables that players would encounter in the game and their behaviors, using the original prototype as a basis for iteration and creating a document detailing a refined version that would be more polished and how to set it up for the programming team.  The following clips are from the initial prototype, which was designed and developed by the game director as proof of concept, which I used as examples for how to refine the systems as well as recreate ones that were clear in the production phase of Capstones.

The following clips have been enlarged for viewing as they are not able to be included in the attached pdf, but are not my own design.
