Technical Game Designer

DESCRIPTION

Snooze is a 2D puzzle platformer about set in a dollhouse.

 

Made for the ArtCenter 2022 Game Jam, with the theme of Through the Darkness, we were given a chance as a team to explore what how one might process trauma. For us, we wanted to reach a therapeutic resolve of letting go through the grieving process.

I served as both a Technical Designer on the team creating gameplay objects and design tools.

Design Process

Snooze Visual Design Documents

As a technical designer on the team, my task was to design and develop the gameplay mechanics which can be seen throughout the game.  The mechanics were intended to be easy and intuitive for players to pick up on, with the level designers making sure to place key items such as the battery chargers next to unpowered elevators and lights to organically push the players to put the batteries inside.

Technical Design

Gameplay Mechanics + Objects

As a Technical Designer, I worked on developing the Battery and Spring Toy Gameplay Objects.  The purpose of these items was to be able to create easily placed gameplay objects into level spaces for level designers to utilize and create puzzles.  The gameplay objects in general are supported by the theming of the dollhouse-like space.

The Battery allows players to power various objects that block their path from lamps to elevators.

The Spring Toy acts a traversal method for players to reach out-of-reach key items and pathways
